Pre-Uni New College Term 1 course

will be commencing on Saturday, 27th January 2024.

Year 6 students embark on their final term, gearing up for their selective high school placement tests in May.
Given the competitive nature of the tests, it is strongly recommended that students enroll in both our WEMT and STTC for thorough review of all essential material
and critical test-taking strategies.

Term 1 courses are designed to ensure that students meet the high academic standards set for the 2024 NAPLAN, OC, selective school exams, and independent school scholarship tests.

For more information including the course timetable and fee schedule, please check out the newsletter below or refer to your nearest Pre-Uni New College branch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does WEMT stand for?

WEMT represents the initials of Writing, English, Mathematics, and Thinking Skills classes, which hold primary importance for students at Pre-Uni New College. The English classes encompass activities such as reading comprehension, essay composition, vocabulary enhancement, and weekly spelling exercises. The Mathematics classes comprehensively cover various mathematical domains. The enhancement of thinking skills occurs through regular challenges in Mathematical Reasoning and Critical Thinking, which are provided on a weekly basis.

Is there an entrance test before enrolment?

Absolutely. Every prospective student is required to take an evaluation examination in Mathematics, English, Thinking Skills, or General Ability, without any exemptions. These evaluation tests are evaluated using an advanced computerised marking system, yielding a comprehensive test analysis for each individual student. The outcomes of these assessment tests will determine the suitable academic tier for your child.

What is the Trial Test Course?

The Trial Test Course imparts crucial examination techniques necessary for achieving success in the Selective High School tests or OC Placement tests. During this course, students engage in mock exams utilising sample papers comprising both previously used questions and projected questions for the current year’s tests. Once the tests are concluded, students are provided the chance to go over challenging questions and incorrect responses alongside their tutors. These tests are administered under stringent examination conditions, affording students an early familiarity with the authentic examination environment. This preparation significantly reduces anxiety and boosts confidence among students, as they are well-prepared for the actual examination scenario.

How do you assess students’ progress?

Each term, there will be assessments conducted to aid instructors in crafting more precise progress evaluations. These test outcomes will also serve as a basis for Student Advisors to assign grades to students and convey this information to parents. At the conclusion of each term, parents will receive comprehensive test outcomes and individualised reports.

Are teachers qualified and experienced?

Teachers at Pre-Uni New College are chosen based on their teaching credentials and prior experience in either public or private educational institutions. This selection ensures effective communication with students and verifies their possession of the necessary knowledge, expertise, and abilities to lead students toward achieving their goals.

Is there a homework for students?

Every week, students are assigned homework that must be finished before the next class session. It is crucial to fulfill these homework assignments, and we anticipate parental assistance in this regard.

What should I do when I require extra assistance with homework?

Our initial recommendation is to explore our Cyberschool platform, which offers video tutorials for every question within the modules for each week. Additionally, there are dedicated days during which we delve deeper into each subject corresponding to the various year groups.

What is Saturday MC and Saturday AC?

Our classes are named by date and time. In particular, MC refers to the ‘morning class’ and AC refers to the ‘afternoon class’.
