Starting next year, the OC exam will be a computer-based test (CBT) and will take place in May. To adapt to this new format and earlier exam date, we are launching our OC Foundation Course (OCFC), specifically designed for Year 3 students. This course focuses on building a strong foundation in the various question types found in the OC exam, providing students with the confidence they need to transition smoothly to the computer-based OC Trial Test Course (OCTTC) starting in Term 4.
The Opportunity Class Placement test has 3 test section.
Test component | No of questions | Time | Weighting |
Reading | 25 | 30 minutes | 33.3% |
Mathematical Reasoning | 35 | 40 minutes | 33.3% |
Thinking skills | 30 | 30 minutes | 33.3% |

• Each reading week tackles a different reading format: comprehension, poems, gapped texts, and multiple matching. Students receive workbooks with practice questions to solidify their understanding of the week’s text type. Vocabulary lists are provided to boost language skills.
• After the workbook lesson, students take a class test on the specific format. This is followed by a review session where the format is analysed in detail, and test questions are explained

• Each week, students will learn and master the topics outlined in the Stage 2 (NSW K-10 Syllabus) Maths covered through the workbook. This is followed by a mathematical reasoning test and a review session for detailed explanations and reinforcement.
• Remember that Stage 2 Maths skill is crucial for both the OC Mathematical Reasoning Test and the Problem-Solving section of the Thinking Skills Test.

•Each thinking skills week centres on a specific topic: critical thinking or problem-solving skills. Students will work through their workbook, which includes practice questions to solidify their understanding of the week’s topic.
• The workbook lesson is followed by the thinking skills test on the specific topic. Finally, a review session delves into the question type in detail, providing explanations for the test questions.

Students will take the term tests covering Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, and Thinking Skills. This will allow students to experience the computer-based test format, which will be conducted in Term 4 OCTTC.
Remember: While our course and experienced teachers provide excellent support, consistent effort from students and support from parents are key to achieving the best results.

Boost your OCFC learning with Cyberschool

Access workbook answers on Cyberschool to check your work and learn from any mistakes. This reinforces learning and empowers you to independently review and improve.

Put your vocabulary to the test! Cyberschool offers vocabulary practice tests during the specified service period, based on the provided vocabulary lists. This helps strengthen your language skills and prepare you for vocabulary sections in the exams.

After class test reviews, Cyberschool lets you revisit missed questions in Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, and Thinking Skills during the specified service period. Retrying these questions helps solidify understanding and identify areas for improvement. OCFC challenge menu allows students to review up to 15 questions they got wrong in the recent OC mathematical reasoning and thinking skills tests. Challenge opens on the first day of Reading test week and available for the next two weeks.

After completion of reading trial test for the week, students can attempt additional reading test in the following week. The test will be online format at the Cyberschool.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cyberschool?
Cyberschool (www.cyberschool.com.au) is an online educational platform that provides tailored learning for Pre-Uni students enrolled in our foundation courses. This platform is a source of supplementary resources, providing students with assistance with homework and in-class tasks. Students enrolled at Pre-Uni New College receive complimentary access to engaging, activity-oriented lessons designed by skilled and experienced teachers.
What is S.O.Q?
Special Online Quiz (SOQ) is an online review quiz strategically designed to motivate students to revisit fundamental concepts covered in earlier modules. SOQ is made available on Cyberschool during weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8 of the term. Please note that SOQ is only available to students enrolled in a foundations course.
Will students see their teachers during online lessons?
Students should be able to see their teacher during the live online session. In addition to ensuring students maintain their cameras during class, teachers also have access to screen-sharing features, enabling students to observe content presented by teachers in real time.
Since classes are online, is it possible to join other online classes outside a student’s scheduled class?
Due to a restricted capacity for each class, it is necessary for students to participate in their assigned session.
How do teachers ensure that kids are focused whilst learning?
Educators utilise various methods to maintain student engagement during online video lessons. This includes incorporating interactive learning exercises which prompts students to tackle questions in real time. It is important to note that parental support is essential when students engage in self-directed learning.
I’m not able to travel to the branch (or live outside NSW), is there an option of remote learning?
We provide remote or online alternatives based on the specific requirements of our students. Our regular foundation courses are conducted through live online sessions using platforms like Zoom, while our Cyber Course is accessible through our Cyberschool platform.
My child is enrolled in WEMT. What is the recommended online learning routine my child should follow?
Throughout the week, students are anticipated to finalise all the questions within the modules. If they feel the need for additional module clarification, they can utilise the Cyberschool video lessons to revisit module concepts and questions.
