For decades, the Pre-Uni New College Selective Trial Test Course (STTC) has been the most trusted and beloved program in the market, consistently chosen by the largest number of students and celebrated by parents and students alike for its outstanding results. It is the Number 1 trial test course in the industry, known for delivering excellence year after year.
The Pre-Uni New College Selective Trial Test Course (STTC) is our flagship program, specifically tailored to support students preparing for the Selective High School Placement Test. This comprehensive course includes weekly assessments, which not only evaluate students’ knowledge but also help them develop effective exam strategies. Our Computer-Based Test is thoroughly updated to incorporate the latest question types, ensuring students are well-versed in current testing formats.
In addition to rigorous academic preparation, students gain invaluable insights from subject matter experts, who share the latest tips and techniques for mastering both content and exam-taking strategies. The STTC creates a simulated exam environment, providing a realistic and supportive setting where dedicated students can address their learning needs, refine their test-taking skills, and maximise their potential. This program is designed to empower students to excel, offering them the tools and guidance needed to succeed in the highly competitive Selective High School Placement Test.

Over 30 Years of Excellence: Why Pre-Uni New College Trial Test Course is Number 1 in the Market

The Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills workbook is provided to offer students additional practice questions, helping to reinforce their skills. These questions are available not only in paper workbook format but also in CBT (Computer-Based Testing) format on Cyberschool, allowing students to practice in a simulated test environment.
English Workbook for Classroom Instruction. The English Workbook is designed specifically for use during classroom sessions, providing structured lessons that align with the writing tasks. A vocabulary list is included.

In our classes, teachers utilise the Smart Review System to provide a comprehensive review for students. However, our extensive experience has shown that even after attending review sessions, students often struggle to retain what they’ve learnt. Rather than simply presenting the same questions again, Pre-Uni New College enhances students’ skills by allowing them to retake tests focused on the questions they previously answered incorrectly. To further support their learning, Pre-Uni New College provides each student with a Retest Challenge, dividing their incorrect questions into sets of 5, up to a total of 15 questions. This approach ensures continuous improvement and better retention of the material.

Once students complete the Review Challenge, which is composed of questions they previously answered incorrectly, additional practice is provided. For Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills, students receive 5 extra questions each. These additional questions are intentionally more difficult, aimed at further enhancing students’ analytical abilities.
For Reading, after finishing the Review Challenge, students are given an additional full set of Reading 1+1 practice. This allows students to engage in more comprehensive practice, further strengthening their reading skills.

If students wish, they can use the Writing Rewriting feature to write again using the same prompt, allowing them to further refine their skills.

Pre-Uni New College provides exemplars from students who performed well on the same writing prompt through a Passage Arrange Activity. This activity ensures that students engage with the top-scoring writings more thoughtfully, encouraging them to carefully analyse the structure and flow of the passages. By arranging these passages, students not only enhance their understanding of effective writing techniques but also improve their ability to connect ideas coherently.
Additionally, through the Feedback Activity, students evaluate the writing of their peers. This process encourages them to reflect on the criteria for effective writing, which in turn helps them apply these insights when crafting their own work.

To build a strong foundation in English, students are provided with a Vocabulary Test that helps reinforce their understanding of essential words. The vocabulary list for this test can be found in the English Workbook, ensuring students have access to the necessary resources to enhance their language skills.

The Reading Passage and Poem Annotation guides offer more than just answer-finding strategies—they provide students with the tools to deeply engage with literature. These resources help develop critical interpretation skills, empowering students to analyse any passage or question they encounter. By focusing on a holistic understanding of literary works, the guides aim to foster a lifelong ability to approach and interpret various forms of literature with confidence, and this support is provided when students engage in Reading Challenging Review.

Pre-Uni New College provides a reference guide based on your STTC performance to help you identify selective high schools where you are most likely to succeed. This guide categorises schools into bands according to your results in Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills, and Writing, offering valuable insights for your school selection process.

Committed students enrolled in the STTC course will access simulated questions closely mirroring the actual exam format. Additionally, the STTC is designed to support students preparing for the Selective High School Placement Test. This course offers a unique approach that harnesses students’ skills and motivation, helping them build confidence in a high-stakes exam environment.

Our Computer Based Test format is intuitively designed, providing students the opportunity to refine their exam strategy, increase test taking accuracy and showcase their potential in the actual exam.

After each testing cycle, our exam reporting system allows students and parents to collaborate with teachers during the review phase. Our dynamic report can allow for the identification of student strengths and weaknesses.

Our service provides a comprehensive analysis of your performance in each Selective Trial Test and suggests potential schools based on your STTC ranks, using data from Pre-Uni New College. This tool is designed to help you navigate the selective school application process by offering insights into your standing and potential school placements.
The STTC Challenge is a customized retest system developed by Pre-Uni New College. It focuses on questions that students previously answered incorrectly in their tests, offering a tailored review experience aimed at improving performance across all subjects.
Pre-Uni New College has found that simply showing students the questions again isn’t effective because it doesn’t verify whether they have truly engaged with the review process. Additionally, while subject experts review questions during class, varying levels of student ability mean that some students may not fully grasp the content. This led to the development of the STTC Challenge to ensure deeper understanding and more effective learning.

By repeatedly engaging with incorrect questions, students can minimize silly mistakes and advance to the next level or band.

The system fosters a growth mindset, helping students build upon their weaknesses and solidify their understanding of key concepts.

Consistent use of the STTC Challenge is associated with significant improvement in student results compared to those who do not use it.

The system retrieves up to 15 questions per subject (Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills, and Reading) that students answered incorrectly in recent tests.

Questions are provided in sets of 5. Depending on the number of incorrect answers, students may have fewer sets to complete.

Only after completing all assigned sets will students receive additional, more challenging questions.

For Reading, once all assigned sets are completed, students are given a new test as part of the Reading 1+1 program, providing further practice and opportunities to improve comprehension skills.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cyberschool?
Cyberschool (www.cyberschool.com.au) is an online educational platform that provides tailored learning for Pre-Uni students enrolled in our foundation courses. This platform is a source of supplementary resources, providing students with assistance with homework and in-class tasks. Students enrolled at Pre-Uni New College receive complimentary access to engaging, activity-oriented lessons designed by skilled and experienced teachers.
What is S.O.Q?
Special Online Quiz (SOQ) is an online review quiz strategically designed to motivate students to revisit fundamental concepts covered in earlier modules. SOQ is made available on Cyberschool during weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8 of the term. Please note that SOQ is only available to students enrolled in a foundations course.
Will students see their teachers during online lessons?
Students should be able to see their teacher during the live online session. In addition to ensuring students maintain their cameras during class, teachers also have access to screen-sharing features, enabling students to observe content presented by teachers in real time.
Since classes are online, is it possible to join other online classes outside a student’s scheduled class?
Due to a restricted capacity for each class, it is necessary for students to participate in their assigned session.
How do teachers ensure that kids are focused whilst learning?
Educators utilise various methods to maintain student engagement during online video lessons. This includes incorporating interactive learning exercises which prompts students to tackle questions in real time. It is important to note that parental support is essential when students engage in self-directed learning.
I’m not able to travel to the branch (or live outside NSW), is there an option of remote learning?
We provide remote or online alternatives based on the specific requirements of our students. Our regular foundation courses are conducted through live online sessions using platforms like Zoom, while our Cyber Course is accessible through our Cyberschool platform.
My child is enrolled in WEMT. What is the recommended online learning routine my child should follow?
Throughout the week, students are anticipated to finalise all the questions within the modules. If they feel the need for additional module clarification, they can utilise the Cyberschool video lessons to revisit module concepts and questions.
